TATUCA was founded in August 1962, by the “UN Boys” at the same time Trinidad and gained its Independence from Great Britain. The idea then and still is to show case this newly independent multicultural twin-island state and its culture to the people of our adopted homeland.

They thought that one of the best ways to do that was to initiate the T&T Annual Independence Ball. The first ball, held in August 1962 took place at the Manhattan Center, 34th Street, New York City. It was also a tremendous opportunity for Trinidad and Tobago nationals residing in New York to come together and celebrate that very important achievement.
